Embedded systems software missing from the taxonomy

The simple taxonomy of research software types I'm using currently does not address embedded systems software. This is software the use of which is very common in research through the use of devices and instruments which run software. Though it may be a less common output of research outside of the open hardware space.

I don't have embedded systems experience, so am not sure what changes would be needed to adapt a version of the existing checklists to address the aspects specific to embedded systems software.
