Ruby Error and missing variable when running rcssserver3d on Ubuntu 18.04

I'm trying to run rcssserver3d on ubuntu 18.04 but I keep getting this same error even on a fresh install:

(ScriptServer) Ruby ERROR: #<SystemStackError: stack level too deep> ERROR: (SoccerBase: GameStateItem) soccer variable 'FieldLength' not found
