Encoding issues

Current Behavior

Original discussion: Wikipedia talk:RedWarn#Article titles

Unicode characters (e.g. en dash, \u2013) are converted to their Windows 1252 counterparts, with the en dash being converted into –. Wikipedia's website is encoded in UTF-8, and MediaWiki ensures that API requests are UTF-8. Attempts to reproduce the problem have so far failed (see Special:Diff/1002856995).

Possible Solution

Ensure UTF-8 is used as the encoding for all API requests – or determine the browser configuration causing this issue.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Warn a user with the related page set as "Kosovo–Montenegro relations"
