screen unblanking issue with debian 12 gui
- Operating system: proxmox pve 8.x or ubuntu 22.04
- OS/kernel version: 6.2.x to 6.5.x
- Architecture: x86_64
- QEMU flavor: qemu-kvm proxmox packages and ubuntu 22.04 qemu (libvirt)
- QEMU version: 8.1.2
Emulated/Virtualized environment :
- Operating system: debian 12 linux
- OS/kernel version: ?
- Architecture: x86_64
description:
when running debian installer, if screensaver kicks in, the screen does not unblank as a whole. parts of the screen may redraw individually on mouseover, but sections of the screen remain black forever and don't redraw.
you cannot continue installation with that, need to start over
reproduce:
- download debian 12 bookworm install iso (netinstall is fine)
- start installer and navigate to some section with option select boxes or multiple textbox input fielts
- wait until screensaver kicks in. move mouse and see the screen regions staying black
the problem does NOT happen when virtual vmware display adapter is being chosen, because that has screenblanking disabled. It also does not happen in virtualbox with vboxsvga device and does NOT happen with real hardware , too.
i have only seen it in conjunction with qemu virtual vga device.
it only seems to be related to standard qemu VGA device
