How to achieve an efficient peer-review workflow with voluntary editors?
Academia-lead non-profit publishing in many cases also means that editors, who are often also busy academics, do not receive any compensation for their work. They are volunteers donating their precious expertise and working hours and cannot always be expected to respond immediately and continuously put in the same amount of effort. At the same time, authors expect a swift and efficient peer-review process.
Here are some thoughts, lessons learned, and procedures we are developing at Quantum to achieve an efficient workflow in spite of these challenges:
