Recognition for journal reviewers
In my 2016 survey of mathematicians there was around 50% support for giving more credit to prepublication journal referees (reviewers). How could this be implemented? To start a discussion (ruling out monetary payments, but feel free to mention them if you feel strongly):
-
Some journals simply list their referees at the end of each year. Many journals have internal scores for quality of a reviewer, given by the editors.
-
Should good referees get journal credit (e.g. are allowed to submit more papers)? public awards?
-
If referee reports are anonymous, then how could credit be assigned to a referee?
-
Should something like a MathOverflow points system be used? how would that be transferred between journals?
