DaMaHub: Git for Science
The purpose of this service is develop useful tools, workflows and governance structures to bridge the gap between daily researcher workflows, traditional repository infrastructure, and the protocols and standards of the emerging distributed and content-addressed web.
Data Management Hub(DaMaHub) is a viable solution by:
- making science data open and accessible through minimum viable packaging and metadata protocol
- supporting and integrating existing community data projects such as ChemChains, NeuroChain and HeartChain with new computational scaffolding that presents science data in real-time collaborative work environments
- establishing a TESTnetwork to test, support and establish community data protocols
- decentralising data protocols of content addressable data
- creating a network of data hubs of “last resort” to guarantee the permanence of data
- complementing existing scientific infrastructure with openly licensed peer-to-peer technologies bridging data repositories, linked data, DOIs and ORCHIDs.
The service will build on top of both IPFS and DAT with a view to demonstrating how distributed web technologies and approaches can integrate with and complement existing research infrastructures and projects, with a view to dramatically reducing the overall cost of research data management by reducing, in particular, the cost of outreach/acquisition/ingest.
