What sufficient conditions allow editors to be comfortable with following the example of J. Algebraic Combinatorics?
Hoping to hear from some current journal editors here. Based on email discussions with some editors, my guess is that for many the following list is enough:
- belief that the community of readers, authors and reviewers of the journal support this move
- sufficient agreement on the editorial board
- enough money guaranteed to support the transition and the steady state running of the journal
- help with publicity, contracts and other legal issues
- confidence that a new Fair OA-compliant publisher is at least as good technically as the current one
The big question is: how much is "enough" money?
