Use a less controversial color for expression highlighting
I have the following in my .emacs
file:
(setq show-paren-style 'expression)
This is an alternative to highlighting matching parentheses; instead, it highlights the entire expression. I find this helpful when working with structured data, such as Lisp programs or LaTeX code. Here is how it looks:
The problem is that the expression is highlighted in pink (red) which, in the world of spell checkers and source code linters, normally means an "error" or "warning". I thought I would get used to it, but it confuses me every day.
If this is a choice made by Modus Themes, perhaps we should change the color to something more subtle, less controversial, and more neutral. The less aggressive, the better; definitely not red.
P.S. Also, this highlighting takes precedence over the currently performed selection (C-SPC
), which is terrible. But that is not a bug in Modus Themes, I suppose.
