… go, therefore and make disciples of all the nations. Baptise them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Teach them to carry out everything I have commanded you. And know that I am with you always, until the end of time’. (Mt. 28:18-20)

As Christians, as the Church, we are called to know Jesus Christ present with us, and to proclaim and share the faith we have received. Bishop Mark has offered us an opportunity to take part in this Great Commission through The Catechetical Institute at Franciscan University.
The Institute trains Catechists, including Readers, Musicians, Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist, Leaders of Childrens Liturgy of the Word, Welcomers, Coffee Makers, Parish Lunch Providers… and any Catholic who speaks to another person about faith. (So, all of us!). The workshops are available online and can be done individually, as a group or small cell of friends. If you wish you can print out the material and just watch the videos with a facilitator.
If we can raise part of the annual registration fee (about £218 PA) then as many people as wish can access as many workshops as they chose, at home, in the Church hall or with friends. You can also choose to have a mentor to make the journey with you if you wish.
To book a place on a demonstration; Sunday September 29, after 10.30 Mass, or Wednesday, October 02 at 19.00, both at St Joseph’s, please [[mailto:newtonabbot@prcdtr.org.uk][contact Caroline]]. If you would like a preview go to https://franciscanathome.com. Don’t worry about the prices there but do look at the sample; then if you go up to ‘Partnering Dioceses’ and click on, there is a scroll down bar which brings you to Plymouth Diocese. There you will see [[https://franciscanathome.com/plymouth][Bishop Mark’s letter]] and lists of the Learning Tracks on offer.

We would also like to thank Deacon Tim, Deborah and all the others who
supported them on their journey to First Holy Communion. It was a very
special occasion to see them receive The Lord for the first time. As
well as the sacrament itself, the support given through the
instruction sessions, correspondence and meetings will have enriched
all of their lives. God Bless

All EU Citizens (those holding EU passports, including their children born in the UK and those married to UK citizens) after ‘Brexit’ must apply for residency in the UK. Otherwise there is a danger that if travelling abroad you might not be allowed re-entry to UK after 31st October 2019 in the event of a ‘no deal Brexit’. Because there is now a real danger of ‘Brexit’ without an agreement, it is very advisable to make your application before 31st October. It is vitally important to those concerned (including people from Latin America holding Spanish passports and from Angola, East Timor etc holding Portuguese passports) understand the steps they need to take if they wish to remain in UK after 31st December 2020. For those who have lived in UK less than five years there is a ‘pre-EU Settlement’ application. For those here for more than five and less than ten years there is a slightly different application. It is relatively simple in most cases but you must apply to the ‘EU Settlement Scheme’ before end of June 2021 otherwise you could become an ‘illegal immigrant’. For more information visit

** Would You Like To Know More About Your Catholic Faith?
Pope Francis called us to a renewed personal encounter with Jesus. This is more than being ‘in touch’, it’s more like being ‘in communion’ and ‘intimacy’ with Our Lord Jesus Christ, which Pope St John Paul II says is the ‘definitive aim of catechesis’. Franciscan University has a suite of workshops available (for online as well as group use) to help us grow in this intimacy with Jesus. Would you like to help our parish to subscribe to this? Would you like to know more about it? Contact Caroline in the parish office for more information.

** Prayers For The Parish
Do you need prayer for someone? Do you have some time to pray for others? We would like to spend just a few minutes before each Mass and with the Sunday Rosary praying for the intentions of our parishioners. Please contact Caroline if you feel that you can take part in this ministry.
