** Festive Mars Challenge
Following the success of our mars bar challenge last year, Father Anthony would like to ask us to do it again this year. Whilst many of us are celebrating with family and friends; Christmas for many prisoners, is an incredibly distressing time being away from their families, often causing an adverse impact on their mental well-being. Father Anthony witnessed the positive impact the mars bar (something most of us take for granted) and Christmas cards had on the prisoners at Channings Wood Prison, he was humbled by the experience. To enable this mission to happen we need to work with prison security, therefore we can only accept MARS bars (no other chocolate allowed). multiple packs of 4 would make their task easier and ensures all prisoners receive the same item. Last year some parishioners preferred to donate money and we purchased mars bars from Bookers. Equally if anyone is able to help us write out Christmas cards please let us know and we will supply the cards and what needs to be written inside of them.

** Saint John Henry Newman
Today we celebrate a momentous day in the history of the Catholic Church in England, the canonisation Cardinal John Henry Newman, the first English saint since the saints of the Reformation period. You are invited to join in a novena, nine days of prayerful preparation. Copies of the novena are available from the back of the Church. At its simplest, the novena consists of saying a decade of the rosary each day, and the following prayer:
‘O God our Heavenly Father, we offer You heartfelt thanks for the life and holiness of John Henry Newman. In him You give us an inspiring example of priest and teacher, heroic and humble in his labour for the salvation of souls and the pursuit of holiness. Through his intercession we ask You to lead us by the kindly light of the Holy Spirit, and so grant us peace and joy, in the one fold of the Redeemer. We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.’

** World Mission Sunday
Today is World Mission Sunday. Every Catholic parish prays for the global mission of the Church. And every parish contributes to the Pope's fund for world mission - known in England and Wales as Missio. Even the poorest community gives what it can, then each receives according to its needs.
As we continue this Extraordinary Month of Mission, please continue to join in praying for missionaries around the globe. With the Synod on the Amazon taking place in Rome at this time, we are reminded of the continued need to reach out to some of the remotest places in our world in response to Jesus Christ's command to 'go and make disciples of all the peoples'.
