tablet-x64uefi: usability issues when trying on intel tablet (SHIFT13mi)
-
tablet-x64uefi
on a SHIFT13mi - Intel 11th Gen "Tiger Lake"
- DE:
plasma-desktop
Installed onto sdcard, inserted and booted via built-in sdcard reader.
To boot properly, kernel-edge
instead of kernel-lts
is required.

After bootup everything seems to work out of the box, like:
- Touchscreen is detected
- Stylus support is detected and
krita
also recognizes different pressure stages when using the stylus pen to draw
~~However, the plasma-desktop
package lacks virtual keyboard support.~~
~~It is manually required to install maliit-keyboard
.~~
@PureTryOut told me maliit-desktop
is preinstalled nowadays.
Afterwards enabling in settings causes it to work for most applications.
Issues noticed, where it failed to show up:
- Password entry field at lockscreen
- Need to press on
virtual keyboard
(on bottom left) manually - I expect this is an issue with the device itself, as it seems to not properly advertise itself as tablet
- Need to press on
- Chromium
- Firefox
- Krita (File -> Save as -> File dialog)
This seems to be an issue with X11 vs Wayland.
The virtual keyboard shows up when launching Firefox via MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 firefox
from terminal.

Printing
cups
needs to be installed and the cupsd
service needs to be enabled and started for "Printers" to be available in System Settings.
Afterwards the user also needs to be added to the lpadmin
group, like sudo adduser user lpadmin
.
Otherwise it will error out when trying to add a new printer with:
Failed to get a list of devices: 'Forbidden'
