How to display the upcoming tags (semantic description)

Hi,

I'd like to discuss the best way to display the upcoming tags (see this discussion in french for the back-office data structure https://forum.geocommuns.fr/t/semantisation-dans-panoramax-brainstormons/1921).

So, the user could look for

  1. an unstructured tag, the simpler version being a hashtag (e.g. #winter)
  2. a structured tag, with "community approved structure" (e.g. transport_mode=bike)

These tags could be linked to 1. a picture 2. a sequence.

N.B.: I use the word "tag" to regroup all these semantic associations.

Si, what should be the best way to display this data to the users?

Search bar as the main entrance point

I think that the best approach, in term of UI, would mainly to make an evolution within the search bar.

For example, if the user types "winter", it should propose #winter in the result.

Currently, it's only about places:

Display a tag

When a tag is selected, it should filter the map, displaying only the appropriated objects.

Left tab to list the filtered pictures

I think the best way to display the filtered pictures is to create a new left tab, displayed automatically when a tag is selected. That would be the same behaviour than the sequences in Mapilio (example_ (click on the "tab" button to display it)__):_

It should display there the title (tag used), the number of pictures filtered (or only the pictures displayed on the screen ? which is not exactly the same).

Everything is a tag

This opens a lot of opportunities to improve the UI.

Filters are a tag

This opens an opportunity to better display better the filters. They should too become tags with the same behaviour.

I propose to embed the filter directly in the search bar, and use multiples quick buttons for the most popular filters (see panoramax/clients/web-viewer#182)

Here is the result:

And while the user clicks on the filter button, the quick filters disappear and the filter window opens:

Places are tags

The current search bar allows to search for places. They should too become tags with the same behaviour.

Consequence is that selecting a city would display the number of pictures currently available within its perimeter. Various geographic objects could be imported from OpenStreetMap too: group of cities (communautés de communes), parts of cities (arrondissement) and more.

Map themes are tags

Currently, the map themes are hidden within the layers menu, which is a bit odd and stops the user to discovering it.

Map themes should be integrated within the search bar.

Merge the filters and map themes in the search bar

A ultimate evolution could be not to display the filters neither the map themes at all in the main interface. They should only be available while clicking on the search bar (using a burger menu to show them in the UI):

Final result being (when the search bar or the burger menu is clicked, it opens the keyboard on mobile, and displays more options waiting for user's input):

Sequences are tags

Currently, the sequence screen is displayed only in "my pictures" screen, far away from the main interface. Selecting a sequence, for example from the detail of a picture, should open the lateral tab with the same behaviour than another tag.
