Ideas on custom quests and events
Disclaimer: I DO realize how much effort & creativity developers put into the events and custom quests. I really appreciate that you're trying to make gameplay more fun and diverse. I barely imagine how hard it is to implement all this stuff. I just want to leave feedback and share some ideas that, in my humble opinion, can make our server better. I would appreciate if other players and GMs wrote what they think about my suggestions or offered their own ones.
I play here since July, so my vision is based on what I've seen since then.
Generally, what I don't like is the lack of motivation to complete the quests.
For example, the Outlaw quest. I totally like the idea, but reward is a joke. You really need to put a lot of effort to find an outlaw. But what you get? My friend caught 50 of them just to see if rewards become better. And he found out that 50 outlaws give 1 opb -______- It's not worth it. It's frustrating, because the first thought that comes across: "why the hell did i waste my time on that? I could have spent it on something better". The other strange thing about this quest is that the accumulation of kills doesn't make sense — to me, 50 first aid kits sound much more useful than 1 opb.
I wanted to leave here my feedback on the xmas event that was a precursor of writing this post, but instead I posted it here: https://bbs.originsro.org/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=1300&p=6689#p6689
Some thoughts on possible rewards.
Custom quests shouldn't give stuff that breaks the game. In my opinion, best rewards are something that slightly helps in PvE and doesn't make you OP on WoE. I would like to give some examples of what I consider an appropriate reward for completing custom quest/event.
Chivalry Research Quest.
Awesome quest, splendid idea and implementation. 10/10. Nuff said :)
Usable items
On one server I used to play 10 years ago, Christmas mobs were dropping some really good healing items that looked like Xmas sweets. Chocolates, Cakes, and other desserts. Something like ATK boxes would be great too!
I like the current idea of giving first aid kits for catching the outlaws. It has something in common with the official NPC nearby that recruits volunteers to Prontera sewers and gives a bunch of potions. But I think that much more people would hunt the outlaws if those first aid kits actually gave some good amount of potions, panaceas, healing/sp items etc. It would be an alternative, fun and competitive way to farm potions. Maybe even to prepare for WoE, why not?
Quest hats that give some bonus, but only during the event
A quest Pumpkin hat for Halloween is sorta classic. I didn't make it tho, because I knew it was useless. Would be much cool if it gave some little bonus that wouldn't work after the event. +1 all stats, or -10% dmg from demons, or deal +5% damage on monsters of Nifflheim. Something like that.
Quest hats that are similar to official hats but look differently
For example, a mid headgear that gives +1 dex but looks better than binoculars, or an upper headgear that gives +3 dex (alternative to AoA).
P.S.
Hope you find my post helpful. Thanks for attention!
