2019 Software Roadmap

I'm starting this issue to act as a discussion thread for the software roadmap over the rest of this year.

Why here?

Because I have nowhere better to start a discussion yet. Suggestions welcome. This thread includes discussion on the eV client, and Raspberry Pi images.

Planned roadmap

  • eVIS 1.2.0 (late October)

    • 1.2.0 is currently planned as a general feature release
    • New features that have been backlogged will be developed for this release
    • The currently planned list of features can be found here
  • eVIS 1.3.0 (late 2019 ideally)

    • 1.3.0 is currently planned as a targeted release around microscope calibration
    • This release will be heavily focused on calibrating the relationship between pixels, steps, and real-space.
    • Better metadata will be included here
      • We are particularly interested in finding an existing microscopy metadata "standard" that fits our requirements
    • The currently planned list of features can be found here

Please also note: 1.3.0 will be developed alongside bug-fix releases in 1.2.X. None of this happens at the expense of bug fixes.

Call for suggestions/discussion

I'm particularly interested on comments and suggestions surrounding:

  • Better places to start discussions like this
  • Features that ought to be in release 1.2.0
  • Comments on the overall short-term roadmap outlined here

Thanks all.
