Request for comment: Should we add crDroid?
crDroid is a ROM that could be worthwhile to add. It supports quite a few devices, seems to be community driven and like it has proper FOSS sources. Development seems to be active, I see timely updates for Android 15 mentioned on the website. And with https://github.com/crdroidandroid/android_vendor_crDroidOTA there would be a proper source for the integration - the list differs from what is presented on https://crdroid.net/downloads, but the difference seems to be in not listing outdated versions on Github, which would be okay.
On the other hand, it might not actually broaden support widely (most devices I checked are already covered by at least Lineage), my experience with the ROM is from way back (so hard for me to judge the quality) and it seems to prompt users to install the Gapps instead of enabling microG (which I think is not optimal, but I'm not sure it should be a deciding factor, especially given Lineage doing the same). https://crdroid.net/blog/2025-02-06-why-we-had-to-change-our-ads-system mentions ads, I assume they are not on the users phone, that would be a blocker for me.
So, if you have an impression of the project, please let me know what you think.
