Add margin to bottom of workspace

Currently, users can scroll an element outside of the current workspace area. This automatically extends the workspace to include that element. However, there is no extra space at the bottom, and I am not 100% sure why adding padding to the parent elements does not work (I think it has to do with absolute positioning).

How can we add space to the bottom of the document? Maybe we could add an invisible element at the end of the page that adjusts when the page is extended or shrunk?
