revise / recycle est2dta
In principle, the new approach to collect and store results using Stata's frames renders est2dta
obsolete. In particular research projects, however, may wish to add non-standard quantities to the results files, which are not yet supported by the toolbox and the main benefit of est2dta
is that it allows to transform basically any estimate into the the result file structure.
In order to integrate these more non-standard estimates into the results database est2dta
could be useful.
A more flexible approach could be to store all estimates using eststo
and add scalars or locals as needed.
Potentially, the process could be very manually, contain lots of redundancy, code copy and paste, or performance loss. A small helper tool similar to the old addmeta
may proof useful in this context.
Another drawback is that this approach would rely on further external ados (eststo
).
Potential modifications
-
allow to bypass the need to store estimate on disk beforehand. Translating all current estimates "live" / on-the-fly into dta following result file structure may be a useful feature.
Alternatives
Stata's collect
may offer similar functionality (maybe too demanding, though).
