Please clarify GPLv3 application
I am reviewing a python-tcx2gpx
package for inclusion in Fedora Linux.
The LICENSE
file indicates the software may be used under the GPLv3, but more clarity would be useful here.
- Conventionally, there is a license notice somewhere with a copyright statement, and the text indicates whether later versions of the GPL may be used (SPDX
GPL-3.0-only
vs.GPL-3.0-or-later
). GNU suggests putting this in each source file. https://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html#license-notices - It would be useful to provide license metadata for the package by setting the appropriate trove classifier, either
License :: OSI Approved :: GNU General Public License v3 (GPLv3)
orLicense :: OSI Approved :: GNU General Public License v3 or later (GPLv3+)
.
If you don’t provide clarification, I will suggest that we assume GPL-3.0-only
is intended.
Thanks!
