Mutt 1.10.0 (2018-05-17)
Apologies in advance. The format of the post changes beyond our control when we preview it, with no way to correct it or make it plain text.
This install was performed using the PkgDir provided with CYGWIN_NT-6.1 2.10.0(0.325/5/3) (x86_64). No errors during install. However we do have two outstanding issues:
- IMAP ... THE GOAL:
**To get a basic mutt --up and running
$ mutt -v Mutt 1.10.0 (2018-05-17) <-- installed from the CygWin PkgDir
System: CYGWIN_NT-6.1 2.10.0(0.325/5/3) (x86_64)
OTHER INSTALLED DEFAULTS:
ISPELL="/usr/bin/ispell" SENDMAIL="/usr/sbin/sendmail" MAILPATH="/var/spool/mail" PKGDATADIR="/usr/share/mutt" SYSCONFDIR="/etc" EXECSHELL="/bin/sh"
Given the error shown (below), we cannot find MAILPATH="/var/spool/mail" within the /etc/Muttrc; shown above.
WE installed mutt from the pkgdir and cannot get past the following error:
/var/spool/mail/: No such file or directory (errno = 2
We have tried following online resolutions that have worked for other people; that do not work for us. Then we try the old fashion way by reading the man pages suggested by 'man mutt', only to find out a specific 'man 5 maildir' --as indicated in the 'man mutt' page, does not exist. the straw that broke the camels back (for us), we are reading about examples using 'man 5 maildir', which appears to be what we need to edit. Then we issue a 'mutt -v' that shows us 'MAILPATH' may very-well be the item of interest, however, 'MAILPATH' also cannot be found within CygWin's /etc/.Muttrc.
I for one am truly lost. All we want is a simple/basic mutt configuration. What are we doing incorrectly?
- SMTP ...
... running on CYGWIN_NT-6.1 2.10.0(0.325/5/3) (x86_64)
We now have this extra issue: sending mail with Mutt, without installing an MTA. As we understand things all that is needed in the muttrc is:
set smtp_url = "smtp://cdl-a@smtp.mail.com:587" set smtp_pass = "The password"
... if set smtp_pass = is omitted, mutt will prompt for the password as needed. None of this is happening along with our previous post seen here:
OUR CURRENT ~/.mutt/.muttrc
SENDING MAIL
set copy=yes set smtp_authenticators="auth-list" set smtp_url = "smtp://user@smtp.server.com:587" set smtp_pass = password
IMAP
set imap_user = user@domain.com set imap_pass = password set folder = imap://imap.domain.com set spoolfile = imap://imap.domain.com/Inbox set postponed = imap://imap.domain.com/Drafts set record = imap://imap.domain.com/Sent mailboxes = +Inbox
At this point, nothing is working as the documentation has detailed. Please help.
