Add DID and Nostr expalnation on Zendesk support page
Goal
Help users understand what DID and Nostr is. Here's an explanation that can be posted on the Minds Support page (https://support.minds.com/hc/en-us).
What is Nostr?
Nostr is a free speech protocol. Minds has integrated Nostr. Messages sent into the Nostr network is uncensorable, even by Minds.
Protocol is not platform. Anyone can integrate the Nostr protocol, the same way anyone can integrate the SMTP protocol (email) and HTTP protocol (web). Nostr protocol enables decentralized messages. Message-relayer, called Nostr Relays, sends message to each other, and clients, such as Minds, read messages from Relays.

What can I do with Nostr?
Users in Minds can talk with users from other apps that integrate Nostr. For example, Minds users can talk to Damus users, even though it's a different app. Think of Nostr as a common language that computers can speak. Apps that speak this language can talk to user on Minds.
Users can also manually set which relays they want to publish to. By default, post created on Minds are published to the Minds Relay. To select which relay to puslish to, [TODO, WITH SCREENSHOT].
How do I whitelist my Nostr public key?
To enable Nostr posting from your Minds account, users have to whitelist their public key. Public key is an identifier, just like @yourhandle
. An example Nostr public key looks like this: 7eea439952f54d8ac04ea13b25f11c076040b3f7abe140b9e7ed3080a1ca142c
.

What is DID
It's @yourhandle
, but decentralized. Decentralized means it doesn't depend on a single party or institution. For example, all @twitterhandle
is issued by and controlled by Twitter, and Twitter can unilaterally take it away from their users. Decentralized ID (DID), can be issued by anyone and does not rely on any institution.
Here's an example of what DID looks like: did:web:minds.com:ottman
.
