Round off multi-image post designs

A pretty common feature request is the ability for users to upload multiple media files (images/videos).

Many other social networks have this already; it makes it easier for members to host their own content on our site. This could tie in nicely with our new upgrades to the tiling media gallery.

In terms of development, we will need to implement the designs provided by @michaelfbradley, and there may need to be some additional work done on the backend.

Maximum limits will need to be established with @markeharding and should be validated on the backend. I suspect there will need to be an upper bound on how many, and / or the size of media upload to avoid strain on our servers, and spam in users newsfeeds.

Though I think it may be a bit much to do right now, we could also look towards a new activity type "gallery" in the future, so let's say if a member goes out hiking and takes photographs of their day, they could post them all in one activity post "My day out in the woods".

Considerations

  • Activity post view
  • Modal view
  • Composer view
  • Boost view
  • Sidebar boost view

Goal

Users should be able to upload and view multiple images within a single post. Gather requirements and research viability of how we might go about this.

Further details TBC.

What needs to be done

  • Create conceptual designs and demo the concept. Links provided below.
  • Determine how the web modal functionality will be impacted by the change
  • Agree a maximum upper limit of images that can be uploaded per post.
  • Agree appropriate aspect ratios and positioning for the grid items
  • Determine what needs to be addressed within Admin when receiving reports on a specific image within a post.
  • Agree how compressed posts (sidebar, grid) will be displayed
  • Determine what the limitations are within the Mobile composer, and design accordingly.
  • Review w/ development for feedback
