Problem to solve
Right now it takes a lot of commands to get Meltano set up, and as a result most users may not complete the process. Our metrics show most CLI users are never discovering the UI
Proposed Solution (to Validate)
The user can run “pip install meltano” and “meltano start” and then have the rest of the setup happen on the backend
The user will never have to go back to the CLI again:
- Needs to: be able select and configure taps and targets from inside the UI
- Needs to: have elegant error handling
- Needs to: have a clear path to getting first dashboard created
Tasks to Complete Planning/Exploration Sprint
-
Scope the absolute minimum set of improvements needed to prove value (increase MAU) Decision is: to 1) execute on implementing meltano start
@mbergeron 2) execute on add/remove extractor @bencodezen -
Write Product Requirements Doc that clearly spells out what needs to be built based on critical success factors -
Discuss feasibility of a rapid prototype pairing Jacob and Ben -
@valexieva Deliver development design/plan for a 1 week engineering sprint on meltano start
and sync with @mbergeron to bring him up to speed and write a high quality issue with a more detailed checklist of what engineering work needs to happen -
@valexieva Deliver a development design/plan for a 1 week engineering sprint on add/remove extractor -
Design review -- Make go/no-go decision by Friday, as candidate for next milestone experiment -
@valexieva to create an epic to capture the table in the notes below, add open questions section
