# Starting MKVToolNix v11.0 or later on Windows fails with errors about DLLs not being found
The DLLs listed can include e.g. `EVR.DLL`.
## The problem
Starting with v11.0, MKVToolNix uses Qt's multimedia framework which in turn uses the Windows Media Foundation framework on Windows. This has to be installed, otherwise the GUI won't run.
This affects:
* Windows versions before Vista/Windows Server 2012, but those aren't supported by MKVToolNix anyway
* Windows Server 2012
* N and KN versions of Windows
## The solution
The solution depends on your Windows versions.
### Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2
Use the Server Manager to install the feature "Media Foundation".
### N and KN versions of Windows
Install Windows Media Player which in turn includes the Windows Media Framework. Note that I haven't tested this myself as I don't have such a version available.
