Record users who upload or edit documents

It's a common use case to need to know who uploaded a file. As far as I can tell, this is not something Mayan stores and the documentation doesn't address it. I'm curious about the reasoning this information isn't saved.

If this is implemented as an additional app, is there a preferred way?
