Email Link form does not accept commas or semicolons to separate multiple addresses

Mayan EDMS version 3.1.6

When attempting to email a document link to multiple recipients, Mayan displays a validation error saying "a part following '@' should not contain the symbol ','. This error also occurs when I use the semicolon as per the field's tip/description.
