Image Metadata Research
Image metadata is stored using the Exchangeable image file format (EXIF) standard.
There are three different kinds of image metadata:
- Descriptive: information about the visual content (e.g, headline, caption, keywords)
- Rights: identification of the creator, copyright information, credits, and underlying rights in the visual content including model and property rights.
- Administrative: creation date and location, instructions for the users, job identifiers, and other details.

Visualization of Image metadata
We would have to determine which EXIF tags we care about displaying, or display all of them in some kind of tree fashion to organize them. The data could be extracted from an image and stored in a JSON file to make it easier to visualize in the viewer.
Steps
- Figure out how to extract metadata from images using JavaScript (potential library exif-js)
- Put the extracted metadata into a format that we can display in an organized way
