official release tarball doesn't include build files
This is a duplicate of #1 (closed) but I don't have permissions to reopen closed issues.
The official osinfo-db tarball releases linked to from https://libosinfo.org/download/ and more specifically from https://releases.pagure.org/libosinfo/ do not have the build scripts (such as Makefile, tests/, po/) that distros need to be able to fully build osinfo-db from source and run the test suite.
I don't think the reasons given in 2016 hold much weight now. It's possible for distros to instead use the Gitlab git tag automatic tarball. That works but then distros can't benefit from the gpg signed release tarball which exists on the pagure site but not at the Gitlab tags page.
Maybe you need 2 release tarballs: one with full source for distros and one for osinfo-db-import which appears to be a more compressed pre-built version of the actual source.
