markdown checkboxes rendered as bulletpoints

On github and crates.io, * [ ] item is rendered as an un-checked checkbox, where as lib.rs it becomes a bulletpoint, which can yield unmandated expectations i.e. for cargo-spellcheck the list is long, yet only halfway through implemented:
