Kira does not work properly on Apple Silicon
Apparently, CLN, GiNaC, and also yaml-cpp are not fully compatible with the Apple Silicon architecture. Building them from source with clang results in Undefined symbols for architecture arm64. when linking. They and Kira can be built with gcc however, resulting in segmentation faults or weird results.
There is an official version of yaml-cpp for Apple Silicon available in Homebrew. This leads to the same linking error with clang though.
I see only two options:
- wait until CLN, GiNaC, and yaml-cpp support Apple Silicon;
- completely remove these three dependencies.
Since the latter is an enormous amount of work for a small group of users, we will probably not pursue it in the foreseeable future.
