Footprint datasheet on http server not available by menu / toolbar
Description
In KiCad 9 footprint editor choosing Inspect → Show Datasheet from the menu does not seem to work. It just indicates No datasheet found in the footprint.
Using the little button at the right of the Datasheet textbox in the Footprint Properties dialog (see screenshot) however works as expected by opening a browser allowing me to download the PDF datasheet.
My datasheets are accessed by means of http links as they are stored on a web-server.
I would have expected the menu entry Inspect → Show Datasheet and it's corresponding toolbar button to open a browser allowing me to download the respective datasheet.
In this post on KiCAD INFO RaptorUK (many thanks!) has found, that adding the datasheet link in the footprint's Description field "fixes" the issue.
Steps to reproduce
- add a web linked datasheet in the Datasheet field of the Footprint Properties dialog
- select menu entry Inspect → Show Datasheet
