Unable to update custom footprints "library footprint not found"

Custom footprints stored on local drive can be edited or placed on PCB, but prior footprints from same directory cannot be updated if changed. I see an error stating "library footprint not found" in message box when using Update Footprints From Library. Recently upgraded from Kicad 7, and updating footprints worked without incident in the old version.

It is possible that this is a vestige of attempts to remove Microsoft OneDrive from my new Windows 11 system. I can't determine whether Kicad is sometimes attempting to find the footprint on the removed OneDrive instead of my local drive.
