Expose group name in properties panel
Description
Requesting the ability in pcbnew to add and edit the name of a "group" in the PCB Editor [edit: properties panel].
Current behavior
The user can create a group, but the GUI does not provide a way to name that group. The status bar will show "<unnamed>
" when the group is selected.
Expected Behavior
There should be some way to name a group using the GUI, such has having an editable field appear in the "Properties" panel.
Steps to reproduce
- Group two or more items in the PCB Editor.
- Notice that there is no way to edit the group's name.
- Optional step: Test manual groups using the instructions in Additional Information.
Additional Information
Group names seem to already be supported by PCB New. Some plugins (i.e. ReplicateLayout) assign group names.
By opening the .kicad_pcb
file (or by copy/pasting the group) in a text editor, you can find:
(group ""
(uuid "fc915270-6068-42d8-ae1c-15e81cf5aeed")
(members
;; list of UUIDs...
)
)
By manually editing the code (and then saving/pasting), you can give the group a name.
(group "This group name was manually entered with text editor."
(uuid "fc915270-6068-42d8-ae1c-15e81cf5aeed")
(members
;; list of UUIDs...
)
)
