"Update Schematic from PCB" fails in 6.0.7 under Linux (Mint and Arch)

Description

"Update Schematic from PCB" fails; the expected dialog box does not appear and both pcbnew and eeschema become non-functional; you cannot exit the programs other than via using "kill" It acts as though the dialog box is waiting for response, but it is not visible anywhere on the desktop. Steps to reproduce

  1. Open Kicad project, then run pcbnew or eeschema
  2. Select "Update Schematic from PCB"
  3. Wait forever
