Two tray icons after updating to 1.2.1

After updating from version 1.1.5 to 1.2.1 on Debian Unstable psensor shows two tray icons. One icon is a status notifier and one is the older systray type. I tried to report this bug to Debian but the package maintainer seems to think this is intended behaviour. If this is not intended behaviour can psensor be changed to prefer one tray icon over another and only show one tray icon? And if it is intended behaviour can we please have a preference option to choose which type of systray icon we want?
