At the 2023 hackfest, @Tavmjong @doctormo and @CRogers discussed briefly the idea of incorporating automatic alignment features to Inkscape. Apparently Inkscape can already do the calculations necessary for this, but just doesn't do so automatically. I propose a method of doing this that incorporates the Align and distribute dialog - A single checkbox "Save Alignment" or "Auto Align" that saves the alignment options on the selected objects, effectively turning the alignment options into toggles instead of one-time press buttons. This would be excellent for making UX mockups, which is something many FOSS projects also use Inkscape for.
