License upgrade to GPL version 3 or later?
There is currently a licensing issue within libgeom, a dependency of Inkscape. It advertises itself as LGPLv2.1+ and MPLv1.1, but actually links with the GNU Scientific Library (GSL), which is GPLv3+ (see lib2geom#3). This means that libgeom should be GPLv3+, and that in turn Inkscape should be GPLv3+, if libgeom is to continue using the GNU Scientific Library.
What do the Inkscape contributors think of upgrading Inkscape's license from GPLv2+ to GPLv3+? It would bring benefits in terms of protection to both the authors and users of Inkscape (notably in terms of patent protection) and would make life easy for libgeom, which could continue using the GNU Scientific Library (provided it changes its own license to GPLv3+).
