Fails to build on Debian stretch - upstream bug in xgettext
Steps to reproduce:
Build Inkscape on Debian Stretch:
- use Debian Stretch
- install build dependencies per https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape-ci-docker/blob/26271126c9b640ae528fcf4a1a64b31312f28077/install_dependencies.sh
- build inkscape per https://inkscape.org/develop/getting-started/
What happened?
Build fails with "segmentation fault".
The core issue is a bug in Debian's xgettext version: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=891347
Even the simple command /usr/bin/xgettext -f /dev/null --its /dev/null
fails with segmentation fault, so there's nothing we can fix on our side, except stop using xgettext again, or tell developers to not use Debian Stable. Both are no good option.
Inkscape Version and Operating System:
- Inkscape Version: Inkscape 1.0alpha (d0d1dbf8, 2019-05-27)
- Operating System: Debian
- Operating System version: Stretch 9.9
