Font selector UX study
This font selector is ready for testing. It is meant to provide an alternative way of selecting fonts in Inkscape.
It can be enabled in program preferences:
This feature is off by default, as it is not yet battle-tested.
Addresses (partially): ux#151
- New font selector tab (when enabled) replaces existing "Fonts" tab in "Text and Font" dialog listing all available fonts. Users can select them and apply (with single click) to selected objects.
- Use font search to quickly narrow down the options.
- Use slider to select font size (no need to hit Apply).
- Use filter to select fonts from predefined categories (content of which is simulated currently).
- Multiple categories can be selected.
- Fonts can be sorted from light to heavy.
- ...as well as from compressed to expanded, to facilitate finding the right width.
- Use options to adjust preview text and size.
- Font grid preview (very slow currently) for a more compact view of fonts.
- Support for variable fonts.
Please head over to UX channel to discuss improvements to font selection UX.
