Preference pane semi transparent when not focused but sometimes stays that way

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open Inkscape
2. Open Preferences
3. Enter fullscreen or click outside the preferences window

What happened?

The Preferences window is semi transparent. When clicked, it becomes opaque in 3 or 4 'animation' steps. Each step takes ca .5 second. When moved, the window stays semi transparent and clicking the window buttons does not have the desired effect. Opaqueness only returns after clicking the title part of the title bar or the window contents.

What should have happened?

It should have stayed opaque OR have been modal so that the main window could not get focus. Buttons should work at all times. Transparent windows are not default UI behavior in MacOS and should be optional. Also, animations should be swift.
