deleting forum spammers
Hi Friends, Just thinking through the moderation process for spam in the forum. We'll learn a lot more when the forum opens and we are finally using the controls. But I wanted to post this now, so everyone is aware of this potential trouble spot.
At least with the controls I have access to, it takes 2 votes to remove a member. Clicking the flag icon (by a moderator) is one vote for removing a spammer. Because we have the 2 message approval system, a spammer won't know what we're doing with their messages. The first moderator to see it will delete the spam and cast one vote to remove the member. Potentially the spammer could still continue posting spam, until the 2nd moderator comes along to cast the 2nd vote.
Of course, none of these messages would ever be visible for regular members. But it could create a lot of work for moderators.
I'm wondering if we need to think about some kind of change? Potentially a one-click or one-vote removal would only be done for 'no question about it' spammers. If there's some borderline situation where we aren't sure, we would not use the one-click member removal.
Another reason for thinking about a one-vote solution, is that would avoid having to introduce forum moderators to the gallery moderation page. (I fear it may be too daunting for most potential moderators.)
Thanks for comments!
