Download page needs refactoring

Download menu now leads to https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-0.92.3/ which contains the following block:

The most immediate problem is content separation between visible info on the white background and platform on the black background (if you've noticed). Note that button "All Platforms" is on white background. This is important, because while scanning page for platform information I first read black on white text and because there is no other choice in this context, I click "All Platforms" button before switching context to look at Gnu/Linux button on black background.

Moving information from white to black background results in interrupted user flow. To measure that let's assume that most users want to find download link. Time that passes from user landing on this page to initiating the download if the usability metrics for the page.

OS information is as important as version for user choice. Version info is perfectly visible, but there is no visual help to select your OS - at least big colorful OS logos is something I'd expect from Inkscape. And, really, mimicking the download button on the art area of main page is something to look into. Inkscape is an SVG editor after all, and SVG is a first class citizen on the Web, so why not take advantage of that and not embed Inkscape into web development workflow?

Note that icons on the main page seem bigger and are colorful.

Clicking "All Platforms" button gives this page:

Side menu is gone. The only hint about the version you're downloading is the URL.

Dates:

Gnu/Linux : Snap March 16, 2018, 2:52 p.m.
Gnu/Linux : Flatpak Sept. 5, 2018, 12:28 p.m.
Gnu/Linux : Ubuntu : ppa March 23, 2018, 2:25 a.m.

Why? It took 6 months to pack the same version as Flatpak. Ok. Why should I know this? How I can speed up the process if there is no release - will there be a link with no download? How to use the Snap? These questions are not addressed.

Testing latest release. User story. There is no "latest", "development" or "Upcoming 1.0" with Roadmap and downloads. There is only "master". In time more artists will discover what "master" is about, but the flow for this kind of users can be improved as well.

I don't include any proposals yet. The goal was to provide the feedback as I was asked in the inkscape-devel@ mailing list and give some insights that can trigger the creative process of designing a better experience for those pages, both in visual way and in workflow.

To upload designs, you'll need to enable LFS and have an admin enable hashed storage. More information
