Keyboard-accessible Guides Manager
Migrated (and abridged) from https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/170355 from 2004-08-03 to 2010-10-16
including https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/171917 from 2007-05-03 to 2014-12-05
Summary:
Inkscape needs a dedicated Guides Manager accessible from the menubar with an accompanying keyboard shortcut.
Additional Comments (summarized):
Most suggestions made in those issues have since been adopted into Inkscape's Guideline
dialog.
- Delete All Guides (bug 171917 and comment #4)
- Present-day `Guideline` dialog includes the following
- Positioning (absolute/relative) with choice of unit (bug 170355 )
- Angle (#1)
- Duplication (#2)
...or as su_v (suv-lp) wrote on 2009-11-18:
have you tried to double-click a guide? What is missing from that dialog? (Besides that it isn't a 'Guideline Manager' of course, and allows positioning of individual guides only)
So why migrate here? Despite the many improvements...
- Inkscape still has no way of accessing the
Guideline
dialog from the keyboard. Guides always* require a mouse action - Inkscape has no way of managing many guides simultaneously (or sets of guides)
* the Guides Creator extension, while effective and keyboard-driven, has no method for creating guides with gutters (for editorial use), no method for modifying existing guides, and relies only on fraction percentages.
Migrator's Notes:
- Strangely enough, I could find no pertinent duplicate issues here at GitLab...but I'm not @nathanal nor @jhofinger, the masters of duplicate-issue hunting
😄 - Inkscape, as I understand it, can manage sets of different grids in one document...why not guides?
- This could be added to the
Document Properties
'sGuides
tab, being how there's adequate space available, but that would always be less immediate than a dedicated, shortcut-invokable Guides Manager.
