paste objects cut/copied from different layers into originating layers
Migrated from https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/170526
Steps to reproduce:
- create a document with multiple layers
- add objects to each layer
- select various objects from different layers, creating one selection
- "Cut" or "Copy"
- "Paste" or "Paste In Place"
What happened?
Pasted objects are all in the last selected layer.
What might have happened?
An additional Paste option could be added: Paste Into Original Layer(s). With the option, all copied/cut objects would be pasted into the layers from which they were cut/copied.
Additional Information/Comments:
- Especially useful when an multi-layered object is copied and pasted into a new document. Present implementation pastes all objects into the new document's selected layer.
- Workarounds mentioned in this thread:
- "Duplicate" instead of pasting preserves objects' original layer position. This does not resolve pasting into a new document though.
- "Clone" and unlinking, like "Duplicate" also works but skirts the new document issue.
- Unassigned since 2005, last commented in 2019.
