PDF/EPS linking and embedding
Migrated from https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1794072
Steps to reproduce:
- import a .pdf or .eps file
What happened?
- PDF Import Settings dialog appears with various options to solely include into the Inkscape document.
What should have happened?
- Like importing bitmap or .svg files, importing .pdf/.eps files should offer the same options to either include/link/embed. As it stands, "Import" loses all path information to the imported .pdf/.eps.
Inkscape Version and Operating System:
- Inkscape Version: --
- Operating System: --
- Operating System version: --
Additional Notes and Comments
The original LaunchPad submitter (davidcb) works with .svg documents that include generated .pdf and .eps files from a variety of programs in a non-trivial directory structure. If and when the original .pdf/.eps file's information changes, Inkscape cannot update the information in the .svg file.
Presently (2018) the submitter, after importing the pertinent .pdf/.eps files, selects the imported object and via a right-click "Create Link" assigns a link path in Object Properties. This is extremely unwieldy and, especially in mid-workflow, may be easily overlooked.
He cites that in LaTex, the location path is always written to file (as '\includegraphics'). He then requests an additional option in the PDF Import dialog simply to include the path of the imported PostScript document.
My feeling is that Inkscape already has a 'include/embed/link' foundation in place. Would it be possible to include the same options for PostScript files? If not, is David's original request (save location path) doable?
