empty text objects should be visible
Steps to reproduce:
- open Inkscape
- enable the Text tool
- either click on the canvas as if to start typing text, but don't type any
- or draw a text box but don't type any text
What happened?
An empty text object is created, which can be selected via Ctrl + a or Tab key. But they can't be seen except by these unusual selection techniques. By accidentally misaligning the mouse when trying to edit existing text, these empty text objects can easily be created. Someone working fast and not very precisely can easily create tens of empty text objects in 15 or 20 minutes.
What should have happened?
At first I was thinking the empty text objects should automatically be deleted, or just not created in the first place, if text is never typed. But according to the original report, there was some discussion on a mailing list where it was stated that it would be better if the empty text objects were just made visible, rather than deleted. I honestly don't remember why, but I guess developers probably know why.
Inkscape Version and Operating System:
- Inkscape Version: 1.0beta1 (fe3e306, 2019-09-17)
- Operating System: Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit
This report is asking for the empty text objects to be more easily visible, so someone can delete them.
Some other similar bug reports are mentioned, and I did not check whether they have been migrated
