Cannot snap to paths inside clone of group
There have long been interaction problems between clones and snapping: clones don’t or didn’t offer all the same snap facilities as the original objects. I forget exactly what did and did not work, but there is one that I can reproduce now in 1.2.1. Taking the attached test image as an example:
1) Create a simple path.
2) Convert it into a group.
3) Clone the group, flip it and put it next to the original. This is not required, but it reflects my current project. (Illustrating steel lattice transmission towers, AKA “pylons”.)
4) Ensure that snap to path is enabled.
5) Select the path tool, and try to draw a line from the left path to the right path. You will see that the tool snaps the first point happily to the left path (in the group) but totally ignores the path in right path (clone of group).
Also included in the test image is a duplicated group and a clone of a path. No problems here: it’s only a clone of a group that causes trouble. In my case, I am drawing symmetrical objects, so I’m working with cloned groups because almost every aspect of the illustration needs to be duplicated. (Horizontal lines, I don’t include in the group to avoid artefacts from facing lines, and central vertical lines only occur once.) The latticework is easier to trace if you draw from left side to right side instead of left side to middle, so that means that cusp nodes from any line inside the group should be able to be snapped to paths on the flipped opposite-side clone of the group, and this does not work. You can snap to nodes inside the cloned group, but not the paths themselves.
