IMHO, it would be a relief for users if they could simply change the paths to libraries or programmes required for additional functionality by using the UI. The latest example being lack of PS/PDF import via Ghostscript on Macs. Why do Mac users have to use the Terminal to make this important feature work? I know I'm biased, but I urge you to look at Scribus 1.5.7 under File > Preferences > External Tools. It's easy to use and still flexible.
