Duplicate patterns in pattern list in 1.3
Summary:
Some of the new patterns in 1.3 are duplicates, apparently.
- Bricks / Bricks: one is colorable, the other is not. The non-colorable can go.
- Alternating Chevron: same
- Circle: same
- Cubes: both are colorable, I can't see any difference. Name is identical, too.
- Decorative Paper: both are not colorable, but one should be and the other should go.
- Ermine: one is colorable, the other isn't. They are shifted a little, not sure why. Look the same to me otherwise. The non-colorable one can go.
- Floor Tiles: both are colorable, one can go.
- Hexagons / Hexagons packing grid: despite different names, they both look identical to me. Both are colorable, one can go.
- Invertedcircle / Inverted circle: one is colorable, the other is not. One can go.
- Packed circles: identical, one can be removed
- WireFence / Wire Fence: identical, except for the name, one can go
- ZigZag: same name, same line width, one has a minimally larger spacing. I think we only need one.
To consider:
- Raindrops1 and Raindrops2 are extremely similar. Do we need two of them where one is mostly just rotated and a bit rounder?
Steps to reproduce:
- open Inkscape
- draw a rectangle
- apply a pattern
- try them out
What happened?
Many patterns are identical, the copies that are less useful (i.e. not colorable) can and should be removed. In the unlikely case that their existence is not an accident, the difference needs to be added to their names.
What should have happened?
Each pattern should only be there once. I would like to suggest that this is an embarrassing must-fix issue that needs to be fixed before 1.3.
