Import SVG file into inkscape - file becomes an image file

Summary:

... Importing SVG files into Inkscape imports it as an image rather than svg.

Steps to reproduce:

• open Inkscape
• File > open recent > (open any existing file I have)
• File > import > (select any SVG file that I have on my computer) > click open

What happened?

... File is imported but it an image rather than vector ... ALSO happens if I try to drag and drop the svg file into my existing file!

What should have happened?

... The file should be in vector form and not importing as an image

... WORKAROUND...

• Open said svg file in a new window
• Copy all contents of said svg file
• open existing svg file
• paste

Sample attachments:
